I had the pleasure of speaking at last week’s Crowd Invest Summit, the largest gathering of crowdfund enthusiasts since the industry first emerged.
Influencer and visionary, James Altucher opened up the show, and he did not disappoint. I’m a big fan of Altucher’s and have many times drawn inspiration from his articles. But, this was the first time I had the chance to see James speak. I was moved. He speaks just like he writes – from the heart. He also throws out a lot of “F bombs” which I found to be captivating.
I don’t think “F bombs” are used nearly enough in FinTech presentations or at financial conferences in general. That’s fu$king unfortunate considering that people who curse are far more intelligent than people who don’t. I read that on Facebook so it must be true.
I also had the honor of interviewing James Altucher during a segment for “Inside the FinTech Spotlight”, a new video series by FinTechREVOLUTION.tv. It’s like “Inside the Actor’s Studio with James Lipton” but with FinTech celebrities as opposed to Hollywood stars. And instead of host James Lipton, well, it’s just me.
I can’t wait till “Inside the FinTech Spotlight” airs in 2017. It’s going to be fu%king epic.
Anyway, the Summit’s panel sessions were really enlightening. And the attendees seemed to be just devouring the information. There was even a packed house during the 4pm legal discussion. And I don’t think that the large draw was solely due to crowdfund legal expert and moderator Mark Roderick pre-announcing that Beyonce was going to be on the panel.
While the educational sessions were excellent, the Summit’s exhibit hall was where a lot of the action took place. Unlike typical industry exhibit halls that are full of emerging finance platforms, the exhibit hall at the Crowd Invest Summit also included a number of crowdfinance issuers who were showcasing their products.

I had the chance to sit in a car – made by Ronn Motor Group – that I thought would take me back to 1999 once it hit 88 miles per hour. Although I was disappointed to learn that it was not a time machine, I still want one.
I also got to try out a new abdominal product that will finally give me the six pack that Suzanne Summers promised but never delivered with her “Ab Roller”. I can’t tell you how much sh#t I took during my single years for having an ab roller. The thing was too big to fit into most Manhattan closets so I just kept it next to the couch. It was like part of my living room set. It eventually became a conversation piece that always began with, “I can’t believe you have a fu&king ab roller!”
I also got to talk shop with Youngry, a cool new media company uniting and inspiring the entrepreneurship ecosystem. At the conclusion of the interview Youngry asked me, “What is the one piece of advice that would you give to inspiring entrepreneurs?”
Of course I was only able to come up with one answer, “Just f*cking go for it!”
